Alessandro Giovanni Bertinetto

Professor of Aesthetics
University of Turin

Alessandro Bertinetto is a Full Professor of Aesthetics at the University of Turin, where he also teaches Philosophy of Music. Prior to his current role, he served as a Researcher in Aesthetics at the University of Udine and later as an Associate Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Turin.

He was also an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin.

Professor Bertinetto has held visiting scholar positions at several prestigious institutions, including the Complutense University of Madrid, Autonomous University of Madrid, University of Murcia, University of Toulouse, Kanazawa University, University of Luxembourg, Freie Universität Berlin, University of Valencia, and the Federal University of Belo Horizonte.

In 2024, he chaired the section on Music and the Performing Arts at the World Congress of Philosophy held in Rome.

His research spans German idealism, aesthetics, hermeneutics, the philosophy of music, creativity, and improvisation. Notable among his publications are:

His current research focuses on the role of habits in aesthetic experience and artistic practice, particularly in music and the performing arts.

From 2012 to 2018, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society for Aesthetics. He currently serves as the Director of the Research Center ART – Aesthetics Research Torino (www.art.unito.it) and as Chair of the Philosophy Degree Program at the University of Turin.
