Dr. Alok Bajpai

Dr. Alok Bajpai is a Psychiatrist trained at NIMHANS, Bangalore, presently working at Kanpur after few stints abroad. Apart from practicing Psychiatry, a consistent focus of his work is with children, adolescent and youth, being associated with various Institutes and schools. His work extends beyond the confines of clinic into freelance teaching of mental health issues and life skills. Psychiatry, Physics, Film, Music, Literature and Teaching are only some of the things that occupy Dr. Alok Bajpai's wide world. He has been instrumental in putting together many awareness campaigns and workshops - especially with schools and has trained teachers - aiming at increasing sensitivity towards childhood problems, in many Indian cities.

These interactions are directed especially to the process of critical thinking, as an attempt of brain training to help the young minds evolve and evaluate their own ideology. He is also a regular columnist who writes about issues of mental health and socio-politics of life.

One special passion with Alok is the transformational process of the mind to enhance inner harmony and peace as Mahatma Gandhi remains his leitmotif and example. He is the curator of an interactive programme 'An Hour with the Mahatma'  focussing on the transformative skills of Mahatma Gandhi.  Gandhi for him is the tool to improve life skills and his exploration continues in applying Gandhi’s tools to various walks of life especially conflict resolution and compassion. 

He is a Cinema student and left is busy schedule to attend the FTII-film appreciation course at Pune and did similar courses in Australia. He conducts Film Appreciation courses for students too

He is engaged in interdisciplinary research at IIT and has few publications in Scientific reports (Nature) ,exploring Brain processes. His MOOC courses on NPTEL – ‘Psychiatry An Overview’ and ‘How the Brain creates mind’ are popular.
