Frank Reichert is a professor in the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), whose work advances innovative research into youth citizenship and civics education in K–12 classrooms. His work focuses on professional competences for civics teachers as well as youth citizenship and civic engagement.
He has held academic posts in Germany, Australia, and the U.S., and most recently completed a short-term fellowship at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. His research has been recognized with various awards, including the 2016 Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship of the National Academy of Education in the U.S., the 2018 Richard M. Wolf Memorial Award of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), the 2021 AERA Social Studies Research SIG Early Career Award, and HKU's 2022 Faculty of Education Outstanding Young Researcher Award.
Current projects examine inclusive citizenship in Hong Kong (funded by the Research Grants Council from 2026), democracy education in Germany (with Professor Dirk Lange, funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture of the State of Lower Saxony since 2024), and evolving norms of citizenship (funded by the Spencer Foundation since 2024).
